One of my most important lines of work, concerns the very real situation of large exotic cats predating on livestock. Whenever a situation arises in the area that I cover, the police, vets, abattoirs and farmers contact me, and after taking details, I then travel to the area to meet the people involved, talk with them, conduct interviews and then move onto carrying out a full and detailed search of the kill and feed-site, to try and establish exactly what has happened. If anything, I am looking for indisputable physical evidence i.e. unusual smells, urine, hair scat or spoor.
The site always tells a story if you know what you are looking for. Then afterwards, I carry out a full forensic examination on the carcass or carcasses involved, to determine

I also work with the UK's leading pioneers in the field of DNA research. This aspect is invaluable when dealing with the need for analysing hair, scat and urine samples.
Another aspect concerning DNA sampling involves collecting saliva from bite-wounds on domestic pets or livestock, this involves collecting saliva on a Q-tip and transferring it into a tube, this is also sent for DNA analysis.
The carcass is then catalogued by taking notes, numerous photographs and also by recording the evidence on video. My work concerning predation on livestock have all included sheep, goats, horses, cattle, a rhea, poultry and also domestic pets, along with wildlife such as fallow-deer, fox, badger and rabbit...
